Post No.: 0302first aid

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Remember that night I was nearly lured to my doom and you saved me?

Furrywisepuppy says:

I remember it vividly. I’m so furry glad you were fine in the end.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Some Fuzzy Rascalscamps, who poach Furry and Fluffy Furmiliars like us, set a trap for me. They knew my kryptonite.

Furrywisepuppy says:

Catnip!

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Yes. I cannot quite tell what happened exactly but when I came to, I found myself in a small cage on the back of an electric ride-on driven by three of those tittering pea-eyed poachers. I couldn’t shapeshift into anything small enough to escape.

It was a stormy night and as the vehicle was crossing a bridge, lightning struck us and dislodged the cage I was in into the raging rapids below. The metal trap must’ve acted like a Faraday cage so fortunately I wasn’t turned into fried kitten katsu. But I’m not the keenest creature for water and all I could do was hang onto the cage to wherever the torrents took me.

I must’ve been knocked unconscious as I struck some rocks.

Furrywisepuppy says:

I was expecting to see you that night so I was a little worried when I didn’t, but you often do your own independent thing anyway.

It was terrible weather that night I do recall. The first thing that came to the rescue was my powerful ability to smell.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Umm, I know you sometimes have the strong aroma of a typical dog but I don’t understand how that helped here(?!)

Furrywisepuppy says:

I’m talking about my powerful ability to smell with my wet doggy nose!

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Oh that makes much more sense!

Furrywisepuppy says:

When the storm suddenly ceased, I could smell that something was not right in the air so I followed the scent.

Not long later, I found you collapsed on the embankment of the river, out of the bashed-up cage, so I immediately got onto administering some first aid.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

First aid was really the main thing that came to the rescue that night – the value of everyone learning at least some basic first aid skills.

Furrywisepuppy says:

In some places or careers it’s mandatory to learn some first aid but I think every single person, and that includes children, should learn about it as soon as they can…

I assessed the situation to see if there was any danger, made the area safe, tried to get a response from you but you were unconscious, so I looked at your ABC, or airway, breathing and circulation, then called for help when I realised you weren’t breathing.

As the call was being made, I gave you some CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and that worked! You had no other obvious injuries so I placed you in the recovery position.

Before the emergency services arrived, you woke up.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

I was okay, and it was thanks to you pupper!

Furrywisepuppy says:

You’re welcome kitteh. Even though you are my friend, I would’ve done the same for anyone.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

I have since learned about basic first aid too – in case of choking, shock, bleeding, burns and scalds, fractures, concussions and compressions, strains and sprains, fainting, epilepsy, asthma, heart attack, stroke, poisoning and stings.

Furrywisepuppy says:

Yeah, look for a first aid course near you; or at least peruse some online guides, such as this first aid guide.

Fluffystealthkitten says:

Without it, I probably wouldn’t still be here. Thanks again. <3 Meow.

Furrywisepuppy says:

It’s also recommended to keep a first aid kit in your home and in any vehicles too, that includes things like various sized and shaped plasters, sterile gauze dressings, bandages and eye pads, safety pins, alcohol-free cleansing wipes, eyewash, disposable gloves, a thermometer, antiseptic cream, painkillers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen and aspirin, antihistamines, sticky tape, tweezers and scissors.

You never know when you might need it. Woof!
